Cratos fits the bill at modern London eatery

Entire ordering and billing transaction is now completed at the tableside

Cratos Hospitality Services recently installed its EPOS software and head office systems at Khana Khazana, a restaurant in Green Street, East London.

This well-known Forest Gate location, close to West Ham United’s Upton Park Football Stadium, is now home to another team – Khana Khazana’s team of chefs. Using authentic ingredients in a wide range of Indian dishes, the chefs ensure full flavour and dedication to the traditions of regional Indian cookery.

Despite the traditionalism of its menu, the dining room is modern, creating a relaxed and stylish atmosphere, and to further develop this theme owner Deepak Mohindra decided to install the most suitable EPOS system to run his restaurant operations to a high level of efficiency.

Cratos Hospitality was the only company, out of those he examined, to offer the hand-held ordering system he was looking for. Critically, this had to have finalisation of payment of client bills straight from the hand-held, without the need to go to a touch screen till.

Other systems require the waiter to retreat to the nearest touch screen till to close off a table and produce the bill. “The other systems I looked at were fine for taking the order, but not for paying it off the bill itself,” said Deepak.

However, Deepak wanted to take this one step further and enable waiting staff to complete the transaction at the table in front of the customer, with a belt printer producing the final bill, saving time going to a remote printer.

Cratos provided the necessary solution here, using Socket Mobile 650 hand-held ordering devices and Bixolon SPPR 200 belt printers. Staff were able, for the first time, to produce bills from a belt printer using Bluetooth connectivity.

Intuitive system pleases staff at Cromwell's

Cromwell's Wine Bar in Shrewsbury has recently installed a Cratos EPOS system with hand held ordering, stock control, and hotel management booking software, to which Cratos has now added an open-to-all wifi system, for customers to gain free access to the internet when they visit Cromwell's.

Owner Karen Avery reports: "I have managed to spread my enthusiasm for your software to the staff now. As well as using the till and hand held, they are adding the new menus and changing the prices themselves, clocking in and out every day using the time keeping module and updating the room booking module daily so that food and drinks can be transferred to rooms and so that we can print out customer receipts during the EOD procedure."

"We have had the Cratos system installed in Cromwell's for three months and it has become an essential part of our business. It provides us with all the management information we need to run the business without having to be on the premises. Following our training, our staff have found the system easy to use from taking an order from the customer through to kitchen order deliveries and final bill presentation. Our staff were used to a paper based order system but they have really taken to the system due to its intuitive nature.

"The system is robust and well designed and seems able to survive a bar environment," says Karen.

Cratos appoints a General Manager

Chris Gilliland has been appointed general manager of epos-provider Cratos Hospitality Limited to help guide the company through its current programme of expansion.

Chris has a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry, having co-owned and managed a free house and restaurant business during the boom period of the '80s - while beta testing the forerunner to the Bass Retail EPOS System developed by Xn Checkout Corporation – and subsequently moving into the technology sector of the market holding sales and major account roles within Micros Fidelio, Clarity Retail Systems and GEAC Hospitality Division.

Latterly, Chris has been involved with dynamic data distribution, e-commerce and SaaS concept technologies mainly focused across the Global Travel and Leisure markets.

His diverse roles have included Customer Services Manager, Executive General Sales Manager and Business Systems Consultant and he now joins Cratos from his previous role as Group Sales and Marketing Director of a leading UK Travel Technology Supplier.

Commented Chris: "I am really pleased to be joining a company as innovative and customer focused as Cratos at this exciting time in the hospitality industry and look forward to using my experience to help further establish the company as a leading software and service provider.

"Despite difficult economic conditions, the marketplace is proving to be surprisingly buoyant. Many restaurants, coffee shops and bakeries are using any downturn to re-equip ready for when the market picks up again.

"And as Cratos writes its own epos software, it is uniquely positioned to provide what the customer needs, rather than supplying the same rigid package to all users. Clubs, pubs and nightclubs often have individual requirements and Cratos software can be written or adapted in-house, efficiently and cost-effectively, to accommodate these needs."

He added: " It clearly makes sense at this time to invest in point-of-sale solutions that will manage not only the obvious sales operation, but also inventory, staffing and accounts as well as a multitude of other business functions, quickly and accurately."

Chris will also be involved in the company's expansion into new markets that will enable Cratos to continue as a leading EPOS supplier.
